About Honkys
Honkys is a wave with history. It was named after Tony Hussein’s old nickname and it feels like the kind of wave that carries legacy in its bones. It’s a long left that bends around the reef with this strange perfect timing. The takeoff can be deceptive mellow at first then it starts bending and speeding up as it wraps in toward the inside. On the right angle it becomes one of the longest lefts in the Maldives. You can draw big lines on the open face or sit deep and wait for it to pitch. Southeast swell and a clean northwest wind is the combo. Mid to high tide is best.
Honkys doesn’t roar like Cokes or slap like Sultans. It moves with style. But that inside section can still bite if you don’t respect it. I’ve had rides so long here my legs were shaking before I kicked out. It’s not a wave you force. You sync with it. And when you do it feels like poetry.
