About Jails

Jails is one of those waves that feels familiar the moment you stand up. A right-hander that builds with you not against you. The takeoff is clean with just enough punch to get your blood going and then the wall starts stretching. You can link multiple turns or just flow and watch it draw out ahead of you. On a clean southeast swell with light west to northwest wind it runs perfect. Mid to high tide is best. There’s a little taper to it that makes it feel smooth even when the sets have size.

But don’t mistake it for soft. Jails has power and when it’s solid the inside section can get heavy real quick. I’ve surfed it when it was packed and still managed to find my rhythm. Other times I’ve had it with just two or three of us under a sunny blue sky and it felt like the whole ocean was mine. Jails isn’t showy. It’s dependable. It’s sharp. It’s real.
