About Tombstones
Tombstones might sound heavy but it’s actually pretty mellow on the outside. The takeoff is smooth and easy with a nice soft wall that breaks further out from the reef. It’s a great spot for beginners to get comfortable when it’s small and the water moves in clean lines. On a good day it’s an open canvas to practice flow and turns. But don’t switch off too soon. The ride doesn’t end with that first section.
Once the first push fades out you have to pump through a slow patch to reach the inside. And that’s where things flip. It turns from soft to shallow fast. The reef juts up and suddenly you’re in one of the fastest tightest barrels you’ll find around here. You barely have time to adjust. You just pull in and hope the lip lets you out. Best on mid to high tide with a southwest wind to hold it open. A wave that teaches both patience and guts.
