About Tucky Joes
Tucky Joes sits on the southeast side of Fushidhiggaru Lagoon, close to Gulhi. It’s a clean, fast left that works best with a solid southeast swell and a bit of northeast wind. I’ve surfed it on mellow days and also when it felt like it had something to prove. The wave has three barrel sections, and the last one is no joke. Super hollow, shallow, and tight. If you make it out clean, you’ve done well. Most of the time you’re dragging your fins and trying not to leave skin on the reef.
The takeoff looks smooth at first, but if you don’t paddle hard enough, the wave turns square quick. You’ll be late, and you’ll drop in with maybe an inch and a half of your rail buried. I’ve seen people get pitched trying to ease into it. It’s not a celebrity wave, but when it turns on, it’s one of the better lefts in this part of the atoll. Quiet, sharp, and worth knowing.
